What the Muck

Dive trip to Indonesia!

This spring we traveled about as far from Dive Utah as you possibly can. We ventured around the world to Indonesia to sample their muck diving. What the muck is muck diving you ask (cringing)? I will mucking tell you - in certain areas of the world there dwell some of the most bizarre creatures you will ever see. They make their home in black sand and mud (muck) and have learned to blend in perfectly with their surroundings. This is what we were after. Read more about What the Muck

We Shore Dove Plenty!

Dive trip to Bonaire!

Earlier this year we headed to the undisputed king of shore diving, the "B" of the "ABC" Islands-Bonaire. Bonaire inspires loyalty unlike any other island. The vast majority of dives alongs its western side are accessible from the shore. Many people will visit and never set foot on a boat. Hence, the reason folks love it so much. You can do your own thing, at your pace, whenever you feel like it. Read more about We Shore Dove Plenty!

Salty Dogs on the Aqua Cat

Salty Dogs

We did our first week long, warm water, group live-aboard trip this summer. We went back to the Bahamas and took a little cruise on the Aqua Cat. The Aqua Cat is owned by Blackbeard's Cruises, a company that runs 5 different live-aboards in the Bahamas. The boat docks in a marina on Paradise Island next to Nassau and does most of it's diving in the Exuma Islands about 30 miles to the southeast of Nassau. Read more about Salty Dogs on the Aqua Cat

Fiji - Paradise Found

Diving in Fiji

We all have preconceived ideas of certain people, places or things. As scuba divers we can remember before we were certified, the idea of drifting effortlessly in the water surrounded by fish and reefs. We dreamed of water that was an impossible blue and land with palm trees right down to the sand. Once we start diving we learn sometimes the water isn’t that blue, sometimes there aren’t that many fish, sometimes there are condos on the beach instead of palm trees. But sometimes perception becomes reality. There are very few things that live up to the hype, Fiji was one of them. Read more about Fiji - Paradise Found

Bahamas II - Wrecked Again!

Shark in the Bahamas

It was February in Utah once again and that can mean only one thing, time to get away to warmer waters. This year we were headed once again to the shark and wreck infested waters of the Bahamas.

We had been to New Providence Island and Nassau two years ago. (see 'Take Your Mama to the Bahamas') so we knew what to expect in the diving but were staying at a new property. South Ocean, the place we had stayed earlier was under new ownership and was waiting for money to come in for remodeling.

Dive trip to Belize!

Another winter, another dive trip. This year we had planned to hit Grand Cayman in February but after Hurricane Ivan hit last fall, we decided to hit another location. Belize was on my list so we put together a group to head there for the beginning of April. After the success of beachfront rooms with kitchens we had in the Bahamas last year, we found a spot to do it again in San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. Aqua Marina Suites fit the bill nicely so we brought the whole family again. Read more about Un-Belize-Able

Take Your Mama to the Bahamas

Last February, we took a group to New Providence Island in the Bahamas. This island is home to the town of Nassau and is commonly referred by that name. Nassau is famous as a cruise destination and also well known for wreck and shark diving. In a nutshell, that is what we wanted to see, wrecks and sharks. We were not disappointed. Where is Your Favorite?

This article was guest written by one of our instructors, Mike Walters.

I am often asked by students, "Of all the places you've dived, where is your favorite?" I have been to some great destinations, but I still have to answer, "The Bahamas."

In December Dive Utah took a live aboard trip aboard the beautiful Aqua Cat. This 102' private luxury dive yacht cruises weekly from Nassau, Bahamas to the Exuma Islands. Read more about Where is Your Favorite?

Can Your "Light the Fire Within" When You're Underwater?

Grand Turk

In the weeks preceding the Winter Olympics arrival in Salt Lake, locals in the valley were told to expect crowds on the freeways, crowds downtown, crowds at the venues and did I mention crowds on the freeways? With this in mind I was only too happy to head south for the first week of the Olympics. Off we flew to the island of Grand Turk. Grand Turk is located in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Draw a line from the Bahamas to Puerto Rico and you'll go right over Grand Turk. Read more about Can Your "Light the Fire Within" When You're Underwater?
