However, it sits at a depth of
100 feet. Due to your no decompression limits, how can you spend
enough time to really enjoy this wonderful dive?
Easy, by extending
your time limits! Wait a sec..is this legal? |
You're
breathing nitrox right now.
Nitrox
is any combination of oxygen and nitrogen; however, nitrox and diving
are better understood if you use its proper name, Oxygen Enriched
Air or EANx. Regular air has approximately 21% oxygen in it. As
a result we have no decompression limits we need to stay within.
If we increase that level of oxygen, we can increase our bottom
times. (The x of EANx refers to the percentage of oxygen. For recreational
dives, EAN32 or EAN36 is often used.) But too much of a good thing
can be bad and with the increase in oxygen we must limit our depth.
With
dives up to 100 feet, we can almost double our allowable bottom
time. Plus breathing higher levels of oxygen make you feel better
after diving.
Unlike
other classes, there's actually no need to make any dives. With
nitrox, the diving is the same, it's the planning that's different.
You have one Academic session during which you learn the
new tables and procedures for diving with Enriched Air.
You
need to be Advanced Open Water certified or higher before taking
the nitrox class.
Dive
longer, dive safer, dive nitrox!
